Pheremones are very real in humans. Every person has his or her own individual scent, which is released by the body. The scent it self is actually made by chemicals as part of the immune system (or something like that) so that each individual scent for each individual person is actually information about his or her immune system. The brain decodes this signal automatically and compares it to your own immune system, the more compatible they are (the better his/hers is compared to your weak points) the more attractive the smell is to you. This is natures way of helping us humasn survive by constantly helping us improve our immune systems. There have been experiments where they have had a group of couples and they all had to identify their respective partners from the scents left in their clothes. There were impressively high scores for the matches (and one dissapointed couple where the man identified identified the shirt which had been worn by a pig overnight as his wife's).
But of course like many things in nature, man can fool or go against what comes naturally. Thats why a lot of people who believe they are in love with someone while there are so many things that they dislike about them but they think can be changed, but end up in ruins.
